GM Faily Q&A

Post by Faily »

Woosh!

Questions go here! Answers might also be here!

Over all, I'm happy that Hatoful and I finally got to run this game, as we had been putting it off for different reasons, and I think that if it had sat on the shelf any longer I would've called it a wash and done something else.

I really wanted to give a Star Wars experience that was more on the side of Solo, the Smuggler story in SWTOR, and kind of just steer away from the Sith, Jedi, Empire, and Republic being the main players (they had appearances but were never main players in this story). So, neutral-world and a main cast of shady characters not affiliated with any of them.

Pandemic hit me a lot harder than I had expected in terms of mental energy. And I had forgotten for a while how much extra effort it is to GM compared to the effort it is to play. Even for a smaller group. So I feel also very happy that the players I had to deal with this time around were all amazing and understanding, causing no drama or fuss. I just wouldn't have been in a good position in my head to handle anything like that this time around.

I wish I had been able to devote more of my energies to follow through on some storyline thoughts and NPCs and do more for everyone, but it just wasn't in the cards for me. Still I consider it a personal achievement to have completed the game when I at some point just wanted to sign off and crawl to bed for a week because I was just so tired with RL stress.

There probably will be another game in the future in this little spin-off series, who knows, but with the way the world is now I don't wanna say when it could possibly happen. I think I want the world to be in a better place to allow for me to be in a better place to make and GM that game.

So again! Thank you all so much for playing and for giving us your time in these rough days we're all having, and I'm so happy to have provided you all with a fun and light-hearted distraction!

Hello!

Thank you very much for getting around to running the game and I feel I should also thank you for being instrumental in allowing Banner 3 to run in September, too!

I was very much on board with the Smuggler story bit, as I personally find that the most fascinating part about Star Wars especially when there's a lot of grey space to dwell in between. Teffa probably found herself in a strange place in the warzone of Bankor but this was very much her environment, so very much happy with the results of her reprise.

I fully understand that things might have panned out as they should with the pandemic. It's been a universal bummer for everyone. I did get the sense that more things were envisioned that didn't pan out. I'm just curious about what might have been (nothing specific but in the general sense) if you had everything you wanted to run, so to speak.

<3 It's really been great to look at how things structure differently with this system, and the storyline in the shadowy parts of the setting were a great way to enter things. The stable of NPCs was fun and evocative. I always feel like there's a bunch that I'm not seeing, which is appropriate for well-designed characters.

Thanks for running and powering through GM and player energy issues. Wish we had a bit more crossover to ease threads with your NPCs...but unless one of us moves or switches to night shift, it is what it is. Sorry to flail out of the big finale. Work is always an issue with these, and I'm still finding my balance of what I can be ok with as far as level of responsibility when posting time is so small.

Had wanted to finish chatting with VIRGO and trying to figure out whose old security codes we had hold of. So I can ask here (may have missed it in the heist threads if that information spilled there) instead if we were using something like Olon's old codes left to alert Lyza, or just random codes someone forgot to purge?

Thanks for putting in the work to run the game, and for inviting me in! Especially during these hard and stressful times. Loved the experience ever so much :D

An extra special thanks again for all the scenes with NPC's. Always ended up having plenty and I enjoyed them all super much! As said above, they were well-designed and provided everything they needed to and more. Helped really shape/reveal who Addy was/who she wanted to be in a lot of those scenes.

Certainly could offer plenty of praise, but more than that there was a lot of inspiration toward how to set things up/running these games I got from looking about!

Question time, and you probably can guess what's coming next:

Is there anything with Syn that didn't get revealed, or plans that might have revolved around her, that you would like to share here? Always happy to learn more about the NPC I totally poked you half the game for :D

Syn managed to mark off a lot of the boxes for someone who'd Addy find herself caring for to the point of not being able to just "be happy knowing they're better off" and actually would want to keep around. Of course, as shown in play that doesn't always means it works out! Which is something I enjoy having just as much as the ones that do, for whatever reason I do.

Oh! Bonus question: Early in the game. Addy was also approached by Fly-Girl about something, and they got to chatting instead. Was that a case of me accidentally having Addy decline on a job offer or just a plot line that closed up for other reasons?

ooo, that reminds me...Violet!

1. how serious is her flirty? Or just Zeltron being Zeltron?

2. What was the Sith ship running off with? Or is that plotty stuff that may show up later and thus not revealed here?

More than happy to have contributed to making Banner 3 happen! It's a great game-setting and it was a wonderful game to play in. <3

Some of the things that might've been that didn't go into play was to do more with secret Republic and Imperial agents getting PCs to do jobs for them/trying to recruit them. That was very sidelined sadly.

I also had some ideas based on who people Networked with on Day 1, to give some small storylines and quests to PCs who didn't seem to have much going on, but I just didn't have the energy to pull it off when it came to it. So, I apologise a lot for that. The plans and ideas were there, I just lacked the energy to see it through.

Another one was more scrutiny in Ta'a Chume'Dan, but I felt at that point a lot of the players were struggling with RL stuff too, like I was, so I was fine with keeping things just relaxed and chill before the Heist itself.

The Heist went more or less how I had envisioned it though. Where only the changing parts were the result of player rolls, like succeeding all checks and getting some Triumphs. I expected more rolls to be failed in the Heist so things could've been a lot stickier at the end there, as Lyza would've arrived with more backup and called in more backup, making it a fight along with getting out.

Thank you!

And no problem at all that you skipped out. I totally understand. :)

The codes you and VIRGO found belonged to Lyza's father/Olon's husband, and someone had forgotten to purge them. Lyza was alerted to those codes being used. :D

Thank you! :) It was very enjoyable, and I just wish I had more energy to devote to the scenes.

Plenty about Syn isn't revealed, as she has lived a very colorful life. :D I had in mind to do more short scenes to show NPCs interacting and one of those were Syn and Nok, but I just... well, didn't get around to it and wanted to focus energy on entertaining you guys. But overall, the main part of Syn was shown, which was the more sociable right hand to Olon.

I was surprised Syn checked off boxes for romance beyond just lewding, since she's so very much... not relationship-material. Syn is very much modelled after Lupin III's Mine Fujiko, and similarly to her, Syn would pretty quickly get bored of a relationship.

Bonus Answer: That was me intending on using Addy+crew for an Imperial job first, but when Hatoful and I were catching up on what we were doing he was doing things with Baron Longwhisker for them, so I wanted to avoid doubling up on the same group so I pulled Violet out of there. And managed to use her for Isond instead in a later scene. :D

1. Both! Violet as an Imperial operative uses her Zeltron-flirtiness as a cover. :D

2. Archaeological findings of interest to Force studies, which Hapes would not have wanted to get off-world. Paperwork claimed it was museum-replicas. HapSec, already being overworked and stretched thin with the wedding, was like "this looks suspicious AF, so we're just gonna put this on ice for now and ground you".

Bonus Answer Note: Which amuses me greatly considering Isond then later joined the crew. It all comes back to the Salky Hound eventually. 8-)

As for Syn! They are Addy's boxes we're talking about so.. they're not exactly the normal one's you might expect!

All of those potential ideas do sound really fascinating but I understand them ending up in the cutting room floor. I have often wished I had a clone of myself to make some game ideas possible.

I feel I need like 5 clones to make all my game ideas happen.

And preferably one of the clones to run the game for me because I wanna play in it.
