EVENT: Steal A Sheep In Passing (D2EA)

Post by Hatoful GM »

Steal A Sheep In Passing

Day: Day 2
Timeslot: Early Afternoon
Location: Hangar
Participants: Unlimited

As always, the Hangar is a place of activity. Different ships are unloading different kinds of cargo, some of it legal, some of it less so. One on the shadier side of the law is a cargo-load with exotic animals to be sold as pets to the wealthy. Kowakian Monkey-lizards seem particularly popular this year - clever little buggers. Perhaps too clever…

The details are uncertain because it happened so fast, but what is known for certain is that there were suddenly some monkey-lizards on the loose, that are opening up all the cages. And running off with bits and pieces from other shipments. Other animals join the chaos as they try to run off, find food, or steal some shinies themselves.

It’s now all a big circus with wild monkeys as various smugglers and traders are chasing around after the monkey-lizards, as well as trying to save their cargo from the others in the hangar…

… Chaos is an opportunity for most.

---------------------------------

Advantages/Threats will be a 2:1 trade-off, where 2 Advantages will give 1 Boost to your next roll, and 2 Threats will give 1 Setback to the next roll.

Step 1: Monkey Business!
It's all very chaotic, so you need to find an opportune moment.

Roll either Perception (Cunning) or Vigilance (Willpower) against Average Difficulty with 1 Setback due to the chaotic environment. If successful, luck is with you and you see a good opportunity to get something for yourself in this chaos, and you may proceed to Step 2.
On a failed roll, you may proceed to Step 3.

Step 2: Get Your Hands Off It, You Damn Dirty Monkey-Lizard!
To get your hands on some opportunistic loot, you can choose one of the following alternatives:
  • Sticky Fingers: Roll Skulduggery (Agility) against Average with one Upgraded Die and one Setback due to the chaos of the scene. This is basically taking something without others noticing, be they a monkey-lizard or a person.
  • Watch Out!: Roll Deception (Cunning) against Average with one Upgraded Die and one Setback to basically divert attention away from you.
  • Helping Hand: Rather than being a sneaky git, you can decide to help the traders by trying to round up the Monkey-Lizards! Roll either Leadership (Presence) or Survival (Cunning) against Hard Difficulty with one Upgraded Die and one Setback to take control of the situation to get the little bastards. This option awards no loot in this step, but you automatically pass Step 3.
If you succeeded on one of the two first options (Sticky Fingers or Watch Out!) you managed to get your hands on some sweet loot. You may choose one piece of equipment worth 600 credits per Success. The item starts at Rarity 5 and can be increase by one per Advantage (to a maximum of Rarity 9), but you may not use those Advantages in Step 3. In case of a Triumph, you may choose a Restricted item. In case of a Despair, the item is damaged and is in need of repairs.

In case of a Failure, you may still proceed to Step 3. A Despair on a Failed roll will upgrade the difficulty of your check in Step 3.

Step 3: And Your Little Monkey Too! [Optional]
A Monkey-Lizard would make a pretty awesome pet too, why not make sure one of them gets a good home?

If you chose a Helping Hand option in Step 2, you do not need to roll and will be gifted a Monkey-Lizard for free by the traders as thanks for your help in salvaging some of their cargo.

For those who want to get themselves an exotic Monkey-Lizard pet (or another similarly small-sized animal, up to the player), they may choose one of the following options to capture one:
  • Here, Monkey Monkey Monkey: You try to lure the Monkey-Lizard to you with offers of treats and goodies (that may or may not exist), using Charm (Presence) against Hard Difficulty.
  • Crikey What a Beaut!: Just grab it! Just wrangle one within reach. Use either Brawl (Brawn) or Athletics (Brawn) against Easy Difficulty, with two setbacks to avoid drawing attention from the traders.
On a successful roll, you now have a fancy new pet! If you fail, no such luck.

What was she doing here again? Ava walked along with the chaos, not really thinking about the possibilities that could be lying around. Even the monkey-lizards were above her notice.

But it seemed a small little creature had somehow gotten out. It resembled a wolf, not a tiger-wolf or a lion-wolf, just a wolf... wolf. But instead of being a wolf-wolf, this was a short-wolf. It was as if something, the Force perhaps, had compacted every part of his body.

Those stubby little legs. I must have him. Ava knelt down and opened her arms for a hug. The short-wolf fled across the hangar, forcing her to chase him for ages until he eventually got tired of playing and snuggled with her.

Teffa was hanging out at the hangar, doing what she usually did with working on the ship and getting it ready for another trip. More accurately, she really just watched Arbee do its thing while pointing out a few things that would make her sound smart and more Captain-y. "Oh! How about you correct the third cable to the second feed, there should be less throttle on the ignition when we need to make a quick getaway..."

Thankfully, Arbee ignored her and continued doing what it had been doing long before she came around as the Trunk's captain.

Crash!

She snapped her head toward the commotion and quickly dropped down from the ship as she saw several critters scamper and scatter all around the hanger. Ugh, she could sympathize with what happened. There were some hauls were a shipment of grubs got everywhere. It took forever to vacuum those bugs from the floor and not to mention the ones that got away...

"Oh, no!" she cried out and made her way toward the thick of it until she saw a few open crates laying about with their goods displayed. As a hauler, she was also familiar with theft, too. It happened to her and it happened to others. She quickly ushered some people toward the lizards before wandering off. "...Anyway."

"What's this? An OutlawTech electronic lock breaker? Nobody should have this. I'll hold on to this just in case and surrender it to my nearest security officer..." she said before stowing the breaker in her vest. "I'll surely remember to do that..."

Right! Monkey! Lizards! Teffa quickly put her mind back on the task of hunting for those monkey-lizards! "Right this way! Pspspspsps!" she called out.

Strangely enough, it wasn't a monkey-lizard that answered the call but a loth-cat! The grey spotted critter approached Teffa in search of snacks or food. Teffa wrestled with herself to take the critter as a pet as she was reminded of the one that she owned many years ago...and was lost to the wilderness because she didn't feed it enough. She could barely captain herself, let alone take care of another crew member! With a heavy heart, she picked up the loth-cat and returned it to its keepers.

What's all this then?

The cacophany of noise attracted a large predator who proceeded to get involved in something he probably shouldn't have. Such is the way of things.

Spotting an opening in the chaos, Chomaron was about to scoop something expensive off an unguarded table when an odd beast was thrust unexpectedly into his path. The previous owner seemed to disappear and he was left staring into the eyes of a monkey lizard.

Not just any monkey lizard though. This one was different. He couldn't put his rather large fingers on what was different about it, but it was...special.

Now the thing about Chomaron that not any beings know is that he has a fondness for lost causes. This screamed that. And so he kept it.

What was the worst that could happen?

Alsten didn't spend much time at the Hangar, beign as he relaly didn't have a ship there wasn't much point. Though he did assume that they would be leaving on one shortly he had little idea of which it was or where at the hangar it was located.

Still a little speculation didn't hurt and when thigns in the hangar turned a bit hectic, well he wasn't going to miss a opportunity if it was available. Unfortunetly while he managed to spot a likely item for a bit of a five finger discount the commotion kept him from getting close enoguh to actually lift it, and soon enough his oppotunity was gone, and a few moments after that so was Alsten.

Addy had a cigarette halfway from pocket to lips when she noticed the commotion going on in the hanger. Quirking a row as she watched for a good little while as different crews scrambled, some making a greater mess of things and others actually managing to make up for the loss. In all the confusion it was a bit tough for some of the folks to figure out what was going on. Naturally, confusion meant opportunity but she was above being a such a petty crook.

No, no she actually wasn't.

Walking the floor as she pocketed the cigarette back into it's case she saw it away before walking across two human males bickering back and forth about leaving their cargo to see what might be going on. Both were pretty able-bodied smugglers, blasters ready on their hip, meant a little to her about who she was making a mark of. Only added to that when neither of them much trusted the other not to rob him blind, but both were worried the commotion meant something far more dire. Unlucky for them that Addy was managing to pass by to hear it.

"Oh- what's going on? No idea," she said, pulling out her cigarette case. "Something about a strange smell," she shrugged, pulling free one of the cigarettes and grabbing her lighter with her free hand. Leisurely putting it all back because the two of them took off faster than a young-Sith reneges on a deal.

With the newfound peace she looked after their things for them while they were gone. Unfortunately- "fortunately" they had left most of them locked pretty tight and Addy was without her tools. So, instead she had to poke around the few things she was able to. Finding among those things a anti-grav chute which seemed like it just might be useful enough for the most outrageous kind of plans. So she was pretty content when she walked away from their little ship.

So content, that when she spotted a Kiros watching her from a perch. Someone must have lost them in the mess caused by the Lizard Monkeys, a smuggler trying to make a buck or something. With that good mood she even tried to coax it down with some gentle words and whistles. Yet, smart as these creatures are it seemed to have other things on it's mind and when Addy took a step forward it quickly flew off into the greater part of the hanger.

"Good luck, little guy," she smirked, and made a quick final stop to her ship before the rest of her day.

Pirri didn't especially love chaos (despite what some people might think!). She preferred to work as the moving element in a still tableau, or at least a predictable one. On the other hand, when nobody was watching all those crates and cases, it was hard to resist...

...except that somebody was watching. Or some thing.

Image

"What're you looking at?" Pirri glowered as her gloved hand drifted ever-so-casually away from the lock of an otherwise unattended secure case. The small creature's only response was to cackle wildly, then try to use the nonplussed Chiss as a ladder-slash-springboard for an escape into the warren of ductwork overhead.

"Oh,the hell you do!" Pirri's vertical leap and swing upward was almost as quick as the monkey-lizard's, and now it was the critter's turn to look startled and nonplussed as it found itself grabbed by the scruff of its neck, prisoner of a disgruntled thief who was herself hanging with her legs locked around a sturdy pipe. "You picked the wrong humanoid, buddy."

Dangling upside down, with the monkey-lizard's claws scrabbling ineffectually at her gloved hands, Pirri realized she had absolutely no exit strategy here. What exactly was she supposed to do now? It seemed to be trying to bite her.

This looked like the start of a beautiful friendship...

For a while, Isond was oblivious to the growing commotion, elbow deep in an oversized rifle, grumbling, "I swear I'm going to tell everyone you tried using bith beans as ammo if you don't stop doing stupid shit with equipment that doesn't deserve it."

The lack of response draws her attention from the task at hand, the shouts, shrieks, and chitters finally becoming noticeable. "What the...?" Cradling the not currently functional weapon she's still attached to, she steps out of the alcove they'd taken over to work on it. Isond blinks as something small and furry rolls by in a blur, shakes her head, and tries to focus by counting how many critters she can spot throughout the hangar. They could feel their eyes becoming unfocused by around fifteen.

Enough of that. It'll get cleaned up, or it won't, and gawking at the chaos wasn't going to help. Turning to go back to the worktable, Isond's eye is caught by a small movement up above, near a vent. A tiny, huge-eyed monkey? Maybe, but the long fluffy tail was odd for a monkey, wasn't it? Either way, it wasn't something Isond wanted running around the air ducts. There was a reasonable path up via the edge of the nearby ship, to a hold along the wall there with a ring for cable attachments to get a foot on and launch up to the vent. Unfortunately, that path wasn't all that reasonable with a giant gun attached to one hand. They got as far as clinging to the ship, never making it to the wall handholds with all that extra weight to deal with.

The clunk and clatter of it did send the critter away from the duct, little arms and legs spreading to reveal some sort of webbing between that let it glide serenely about the milling circus below. It was an oddly calming thing to see, honestly.

Sneaky and cunning as the pantoran furry wimbit, Jedra did not have to watch the chaos for long before he figured exactly what he wanted to do, whistling as he approached an unguarded pile of things. Now chances were that that pile had had guardians while ago, seeing how expensive some of the items looked. However the monkey-lizards had distracted everyone, with most of the traders and space scum trying to save their possessions with some greedy and perhaps hungry humanoids chasing the animals across the hangar.

Whistling to himself, Jedra picked up a scent synthesizer, though failed to notice that it was somewhat more broken than the obvious dent gave away (and thus perhaps not as effective as he would have hoped). What was the worst thing a broken scent synthesizer could do anyway?

Seeing the lizard-monkeys running amok and seeing a chance to get himself an exotic pet, Jedra crouched down by a cargo crate, pulling a candy from his pockets, wiggling it in the air to catch the attention of one of the critters, grabbing it by its scruffy neck when it got close enough, walking away with both his pet and his new toy, whistling now with a more upbeat tone.
