Nowhere to Be [MA2: Salky Hound]

Hesitation turned to freezing as she asked the question. A pit welled in her stomach and the hand itching to grab the silver-case made it's move. Opening her jacket to grab the case from inside she happened to glance by the vibro-glaive and returned to focus on it. Pausing like that for a second before she looked back to Syn, seeing her waiting there, she glanced down a moment and exhaled.

Bringing her hand back to her side, and the case with it, she settled back a bit against the table.

"Seem to go by the name Isond now," she said. Though her lips parted to say more she shut them without going on. Meanwhile she was taking her time with opening the case in hand.

Syn crossed her arms over her stomach as she tried to make sense of the scenario, painted brows furrowed in thought. "Think it's really the same person, or...? Something else, maybe?"

Popping opening the cigarette case she brushed a finger along a cigarette and pulled it free, all without seeming to consider the action much. Setting the case aside behind her she played with the cigarette in her hand absently.

"I think it is, despite the absolutely insane chances that it would be," she placed the cigarette between her lips. Holding it there distorted the way she spoke just a little, but she managed through, "There'd have to be something to gain otherwise.. and nobody gains anything by digging up that memory."

"Hmmm... well, we both know that it's possible to fake your identity, so to speak," she said with a slight frown as her fingernails drummed against her elbow.

"But if it really is them... why now? And is there a grudge?"

"I-" she sighed, the heaviness of it consuming her for a moment like a weight that held to her chest. "I'm not sure. If it were me? I'd.." she shook her head, the lighter was to hand.

Pulling the cigarette from her mouth for a moment she glanced over the two weapons displayed a moment, over to the wardrobe nearer Syn than her, and then finally Syn herself. Settling her gaze there again, "What I know is that it's got to be them. Same questions applied.. there.. there wouldn't be much sense in digging up a 10-year-dead person, only to make a convincing portrayal of them on a job where it only affects the one person no one really knows is there."

"So it's gotta be them but- whatever they think of me, I messed up. I shoulda been there for them when I wasn't, I tried but- not enough if they're still here and I- well, I'm.."

"No, this isn't your blame to carry." Syneisha spoke with conviction, unfolding her arms as she did. "You did what you had to do to survive, and it wasn't like you left them to die, or pulled the trigger yourself."

"Don't let such things drag you down."

Addy absently rolled the cigarette between her first two fingers as she looked to Syn. Starting to speak again, but cutting herself off before she formed the first word. Holding off another moment as she just listened, the conviction in Syn's words giving that pause.

"I did, I survived, but-" she shook her head. Addy's voice was distant, quieter, "They meant everything to me once, not that I realized it back then. Had years to think about what I lost that day. A family, someone who trusted me when the rest of the galaxy couldn't or wouldn't. I thought they were dead but I didn't check close enough," she held that note for a second, it started to drift to silence almost.

And then, "They deserved better."

"Many of us in this life do," she agreed, a touch solemn for a moment in her mannerism.

"... Considered talking to them? See if they remember what happened, what their side of the story is?"

Bringing the cigarette back to her lips she lit it. Taking the first drag, sitting with it and her thoughts for a moment before slowly letting the smoke free. Pocketing the lighter for the moment as leaned the hand holding the cigarette against the terminal desk.

"Kind of," she admitted. Picking up the case and holding it up, offering if she wanted. "Just.. isn't quite that easy. Playing it slow, hmm? Have this side-job I picked up to carry cargo. Needed someone to check over the scans on the thing so.. well, always was smarter than me when it came to that stuff. Gives me time to.. figure things out."

Syneisha gave a cautious nod, not quite sure what to make of it, but deciding that she'd have to trust the captain to take care of things themselves.

"Quick and easy job, I take it?" she asked, though held up a hand to politely decline the offer of a smoke.

"All I gotta do is give up the cargo space for a bit, and all they gotta do is scan the cargo for me, so yea," she closed up the case, and with one hand both opening her jacket and getting the case slipped into an inner pocket.

"Still- leaves me with my hands empty while we're here. You in the market or.. well, guess I can be the type to give favors if you've got anything on your plate? Could be good for me to keep busy while I'm still here, hmm?"

"If I'm in the market for some shenanigans?" the twi'lek had a playful smile. "Hm, not that I've thought about, you know. I've been busy preparing us for this."

She made a hmm-sound and flexed her fingers before checking her manicure. "If there's anything I could ask for, to start with, would be to look after Alsten. The young one. He's good, but he's probably feeling a bit out of the waters here - running with all of us old people as he would call us."

"Old people," she snorted, laughing a little as she shook her head. Shifting how she leaned against the desk so that she could cross her arms, directing the smoke trail a bit away from Syn.

"I can do that, but I'd you need anything on the side or even anything else for the job you got me on holo, and know where I'm docked," she added with a smirk.

Taking the pause for a drag from the cigarette, watching Syn as she did. Releasing the smoke from the side of her mouth and away.

"Talked with the kid yesterday, actually. Had my head all up in a fog after," she gave a small wave of her hand to refer to yesterday, the meeting. "Got to thinking about mistakes, hmm? Felt the need to track the kid down and give him some good advice. Got to talking a bit after, seems a good kid, so I'll keep it up," she half-smirked, and it faded.

She joined in with a small laugh too. Old, my ass.

"He's a good kid, yeah, and talented too. Just inexperienced, and he's had a rough life." Her lekku twitched slightly. "But yeah, if something comes across my figurative-desk, I will let you know, dear."

"Haven't we all?" she mimicked Syn's reply from before. Smirking as she shook her head a little. Leaning forward off the desk she stepped over toward the rapier. Taking a drag from her cigarette as she thought on it a moment.

Turning to face Syn she raised her brow a little, hesitating to ask. "How'd you come to know the kid anyhow?"

She quirked a brief, almost reminiscent smile. "He was running with some other street kids on Nar Shaddaa, like their own little gang of sorts. They got into trouble with the Hutts. I was there by happenstance, trading some... well, doesn't really matter what, but it was enough to have me in the good graces for the moment there and I convinced them to be merciful to him. I'm not too heartless to care about street-kids just trying to carve out their own place in the galaxy."

The smile faded to a more neutral expression. "I'm sure he could tell the story better than me though. Fill in the blanks I didn't have."

Addy quirked a brow at first, as it lowered her smirk grew and she held onto it as Syn continued. Looking back toward the glaive for a moment, "Hutt's," she shrugged.

"Not usually the sort to care but, then again it is you," she took a drag of her cigarette. "I'll be sure to keep your secret, hmm?" She looked back to Syn with a mischievous grin. Teasingly, "Can't have your enemies finding out Syneisha Versathi has a soft-spot."

She grinned. "I do have my sentimental moments, but yes, there is also an image to maintain. Thanks."

That it meant having a skilled youngster owe you one, it was a perk in itself too.

For a moment she simply looked to Syn and a thought crept up. Pulling up the cigarette she looked down at it a moment, glanced about to find her ash tray. Finding it on her desk she walked over and killed the flame.

Turning about to face Syn again she leaned her back up against the chair, crossing her arms.

"Least I can do, "she crosses her arms and takes the pause.

"Thanks. Oh, and don't tell him I'm asking you to look after him. You know what kids like that are at that age," she chuckled and draped her lekku over her shoulders.

"So how's the port been for you since you arrived?"
