Boarding Time [ME3]

Post by Adrienna D'avir »

Waiting by the boarding ramp Addy had the cargo-lift lowered and ready to accept the package. Notably, she locked the door into the cargo bay and forbade anyone else from entering immediately prior to the arrival of the Baron's package or afterwards. With Isond to arrive with the equipment needed, and to provide the peace of mind on this strange job, it was merely a matter of waiting.

Which she did with crossed arms and silver-case to hand. Tapping it against her opposite forearm impatiently as she looked over the cargo-lift. Last minute inspection of a ship-part that was in proper working order but gave her something to do.

Isond waves to one of the hangar hands as she strides across the wide open space with a newish looking case in one hand. "Morning! Or whatever time it is now."

"Your package arrive yet?" She's painted her gnawed-on synthetic nails silver, mostly to cover the way the gnawing reveals the weird material layering of the nails. Otherwise, they look much the same as they did the day before, right down do the pilfered-from-the-Jawa-buffet fruit-shaped lumps in the jacket.

Looking up when she heard the greeting she smiled briefly, but it quickly faded away. Turning to face Isond as they arrived, tucking the case away inside her jacket pocket. A quick upward nod to return the greeting proper until Isond was closer.

"Not yet," she glanced over her a quick moment, seemed to have a thought. "Should be arriving any moment now, that the scanner?" she gave a little wave toward the case Isond was carrying.

Hefting the case, they nod. "Yeah. Been meaning to pick one up anyway, now that I'm not set in a stationary work space full of equipment. Boots clump on the boarding ramp, as they wait to get closer for the bits that probably shouldn't just be shouted across the hangar.

"Your Baron's wanted on Alderaan. Not enough for them to bother storming the Port for him, but enough to keep an eye on him. Not sure how close they're watching what he's shipping." There's a grin to the words. How many people wandering Port Nowhere have warrants out for them?

Addy's brows furrowed at the mention of the bounty, glancing off toward the larger port her features relaxed a moment. Smirking she looked back as Isond stepped closer, Addy went a step further. Just barely invading the typical personal space as she looked over Isonds shoulder a moment before saying, "An Alderaanian was causing trouble in port earlier," she left it at that.

Shifting naturally back a step again she started walking over toward a crate set aside for the ships supplies, "Let's talk about compensation for the equipment you purchased, hmm?" she patted the top of the crate for a spot where Isond could rest the scanner. "And for the crate- when it arrives, share the findings privately with me, hmm?"

Isond's eyebrows rose. "Oh? That seems a bit of a coincidence then," they offer quietly, pausing to let the captain step back and away before following.

"If you want to buy the scanner, I'll leave with you for the ship. If not, I've been meaning to pick one up anyway now that I don't have access to one in workshop supplies." She shrugs, brow furrowing slightly before schooling her face and saying evenly, "who else is likely to be around?" Keeping secrets from the crew..or just making sure not to fill in whoever's dropping it off?

The package was delivered by a pair of bland-faced toughs with a small antigrav hauler. It was rectangular, and perhaps two meters long, one meter wide, one meter tall. It looked to be quite sturdy.

Getting the roll out of the way, but waiting on Addy before rp-writing.

The delivery guys hang around. One of them has a pad. "You can sign and get paid when you're done." He says in a bored tone.

"Our friends," she gave a quick nod toward the arriving delivery-boys before they arrived. "We'll talk more of the other business after, hmm? I think.. well, I have an idea that might satisfy a few of those worries," she added with a smirk. With their arrival Addy gives a little wave for Isond to get to scanning. Meanwhile she approaches them and offered to accept the pad.

"When she's finished I'll sign, and then you'll load it, and we'll be done," she said with a tone that would have made anyone with an authoritarian parent stand at attention.

Isond pops the case, pulls out the scanner, and begins with a simple calibration before running it across the entire length of the crate, the crease between her brows begun in concentration only gets deeper in consternation as she goes. At one end, they reach to almost but not quite touch something before pulling back and snapping the scanner off with curse. "Shit. Hope they paid you double for hauling that much steel, has to weigh more than my entire family."

With a frustrated breath that puffs out her cheeks, Isond thinks for a long moment and nods to the captain. "let's keep it. if nothing else, I'll find you a buyer who'll love melting it down for new droids. Just...for fuck's sake don't let them set it on anything that's even a little bit unsturdy." Still shaking her head in disbelief, she flips the scanner back on to fiddle with and see if she can tweak just a little more sensitivity out of the thing while they're loading.

The man with the pad looked a little sour, then he shrugged. "Whatever. But you can sign once we've dropped it off. I'm not touching it once you've signed, unless I get paid again.""

They position themselves on either end of the crate. "So where do you want it?"

"On the lift over there," she gives a quick jab of her thumb over her shoulder. With that direction given she paid the two a little less than no mind as she walked over toward Isond, standing beside her.

"It's 'lright, don't worry too much, hmm?"she said, patting Isond on the shoulder. "About that scanner, let me pay for it. Consider it.. a welcome gift? That is, if you're willing, we've got a spare room still. Which that's with our recent... arrangement with the Clawdite from the meeting. What do you say, think you want to play ship-mechanic a little while?"

The two dockworkers did as they were told. The pad would be available when she wanted it.

With the delivery crew busy, and head bent over the scanner, Isond says, "Lots of durasteel. But that's Chadra-fan biosign all over it, and probably his fur on the end of the crate there. So he's all over it, at least. Not someone else dropping something in his name, I guess. If it's toxic or explosive, they were damn careful to avoid getting anything on the outside."

There's a little surprise, but not much, at the offer. Chomps had said as much already. They look up, flipping the scanner off again, finally taking a good look around the ship, appraising. "Need a ride to the same place, in any case. Nothing wrong with calling it a trial run," the tone is light, but there's a wary caution to the mechanic's eyes. A pause."I'd like to see how things end up with that," they nod toward the new crate," in any case."

"If I go, the scanner stays though. That'd be two counts of ill luck on it, and I'd rather be done with that."

Something about the first explanation drew up Addy's smirk, but she wasn't forthcoming about why. Instead just holding the up the pad and quickly signing off on the shipment with something that was little more than a scribble as the two men got the shipment into place. Glancing to Isond for a moment and giving a little nod toward the ship.

"A trial run then. Come, let's see about getting this on the ship quick," she started over toward the two men. Handing the pad over to the nearest as she approached, "You know, they claim that the superstitious mechanics are the best ones to bring on," she said with a smirk, although she spoke to Isond she didn't look her way at the moment.

"Do they? I guess that's true if you think a ship has any kind of heart to it. Haven't gotten to fill that role yet, so it's pretty much learning on the job, just so you're aware." She follows Adrienna toward the lift. "I mean, you haven't even _seen_ my lack of a resumé. Well, other than ability to trace Karkadon nerves...and let me tell you, they're huge. Not the biggest challenge there."

She's not even going to mention any suspicions about the annoyingly heavy, coffinlike box. Not out where anyone could listen in.

"I've got a good eye though- just ask Chomaron, or Vys, they'll agree," she said with a slight smirk, having handed off the pad she started typing away at the small control-panel that would start up the lift into the hold. Watching as the ship cranked to life and started the lift she looked over a shoulder back to Isond.

"So-" she pauses a moment, commits- "what's your story?" she asked, as she turned into the direction of Isond and then full the way around. Leading the way toward the boarding ramp.

He snorts as the lift grinds to life, hand resting on a strut to feel the consistency of vibration as it rose. "They would." There's a smile to the words as he adds, "can't disagree regarding Chomaron at least."

It's the next bit that tightens their fingers on the strut and edges words with wariness. It's not an odd question, but it's awfully close on the heels of maybe friendliness, maybe manipulation. "hmm, a lot like any other kid from a rough neighborhood where all the opportunity seems to involve running with criminals. Got offworld. Was stuck with the Syndicate for a while, bought myself out and...now I get to look for my own jobs." It's a bare bones life story, to be sure.

Pausing by the door access she took a breath, shoulders straightening. Looking back over a shoulder to Isond, "Coruscant kid like you wound up with the Syndicate?" she looked for a moment but turned to putting in the access code which likely would have cut off any immediate response.

"Well- you'll fit in then," she said, leading Isond into the ship. "Gotta admit, wondering how you got yourself out of that hole but-" she continued down the hall, the heavy footfalls of her boots a touch heavier. They went immediately to the right when coming up, and circled around the hallway that leaned to the left.

"Drayens?"
